Privacy
Short, because there is little to tell.
This site does not track you. The only personal data we receive is what you type into one of three forms: the contact form, the Dispatch sign-up and the listing claim form. Plain English below; draft text, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
TODO: legal review and date. Draft updated 19 Oct 2026.
Who is responsible
The controller.
The controller for this website is a private individual. TODO: name and postal address of the controller, to be completed before this page is final.
To ask a privacy question or use any of your rights, use the contact form. We deliberately do not publish an email address.
Göbekli Tepe Visit is independent, unofficial visitor information. It is not affiliated with the Şanlıurfa Museum or the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Browsing
What happens when you just read.
- No analytics. We do not use Google Analytics, a pixel, or any other visitor-tracking tool.
- No tracking cookies and no ad cookies. We do not set cookies. The light/dark toggle stores your choice (
gtv-theme) in your browser’s local storage. It never leaves your device, and you can clear it any time. - No third-party requests. Fonts, icons and artwork are served from this site, not from a CDN.
- Hosting and server logs. The site is hosted on Cloudflare (Cloudflare Pages, with Cloudflare DNS). Cloudflare sees your IP address and the page you asked for in its standard technical logs, to run and secure the service. It acts as our processor. We do not read those logs to profile anyone. TODO: confirm Cloudflare’s log retention and the international-transfer basis (Cloudflare’s data processing addendum).
Contact form
Writing to us.
The contact form asks for a name, an optional email address, a topic (general question, get featured, sponsor, correction) and your message. We use it only to reply to you and to deal with what you wrote. Without an email address we cannot reply. We do not use it for marketing and do not add you to the newsletter.
Where it is stored: in a Cloudflare Workers KV store that belongs to this site. Cloudflare acts as our processor; nobody else receives your message. Basis: taking steps at your request (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in answering and correcting the site (Art. 6(1)(f)). How long: only as long as needed to answer and follow up. TODO: fix a retention period, e.g. delete 12 months after the last contact.
Spam protection: to limit abuse, the form keeps a salted hash of your IP address (not the address itself) for ten minutes to count how often it is used. We do not store your IP address with your message.
Newsletter
The Dispatch.
If you sign up for The Göbekli Tepe Visit Dispatch we store your email address and a record that you ticked the consent box (the wording you agreed to and the time). The sign-up is stored in the same Cloudflare Workers KV store as above; Cloudflare acts as our processor.
Why and on what basis: to send you the Dispatch, because you asked for it (your consent, GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). How long: until you withdraw consent. Status: we are collecting sign-ups, but no sending tool is in place yet, so no issue has been sent. Before we send the first issue, every email will carry a way to unsubscribe, and we will say here which tool we use. We do not sell or share the list. TODO: name the sending tool, its location and transfer basis once chosen.
Claim form
Claim your listing.
The claim form on the Guides page asks for a business name, category, your name, email, an optional website or social link, what you are interested in, and any details you add. We use it only to contact you about your listing and to decide whether it can be listed. We do not use it for marketing and do not add you to the newsletter.
Basis: taking steps at your request (Art. 6(1)(b)), and our legitimate interest in keeping the directory accurate (Art. 6(1)(f)). Where it is stored: in the same Cloudflare Workers KV store (Cloudflare is our processor). How long: TODO: e.g. 12 months after the last contact, then deleted.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, EEA or UK.
You can ask us for access to your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to its use, or to receive a copy, and you can withdraw consent at any time. To ask for deletion (or to unsubscribe), use the contact form, choose “General question”, say what you want removed, and give the email address you used so we can find it. If you leave no email address we will not be able to reply, but we will still act on the request. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority. If you are in Türkiye, the KVKK may also apply. TODO: legal review for KVKK and the EU/UK wording.
